With your RV to the Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is the most visited region in Botswana, where the Okavango River runs towards the Kalahari Desert for over 1400 kilometers. But before the river reaches the desert, it branches into countless small streams, lakes and swamps. The Delta has a size similar to the country of Switzerland. The broad savannas between the swamps attract many animal species, which make the safaris very impressive. Besides safaris by car, you can also choose a boot trip of horseback riding trip. The months of April until October are the best time of year to visit the Okavango Delta.
The saltpans of Makgadikgadi and Nxai
If you want to visit the saltpans you can travel in west direction from Maun to Nata. About halfway you find the entrance to the Nxai Pans and a little further in the route the Makgadikgade Pans National Park. In this national park are the Ntwetwe and Sowa saltpans located, which are the remainder of a lake, which was once the largest lake in Africa. In the rain season the salt pans fill up with a small layer of water, which causes a suitable climate for animals like zebra’s and flamingo’s.
